Nettle Tea

Nettle Tea: The Iron-Rich Herbal Tonic

I’ll admit it: I used to think nettle was just a weed that stung your ankles on hikes. Then I tried nettle tea — and it completely changed how I felt. More energy, clearer skin, better periods, and less of that heavy, sluggish feeling I couldn’t quite explain.

If you’ve never tried it, or only heard of it in old folk remedies, let me show you why this green powerhouse is now a staple in my tea cabinet.

🌱 What Is Nettle?

Nettle (Urtica dioica) is a wild, leafy plant that grows in forests, fields, and — yes — in your backyard.

It’s naturally rich in:

  • Iron

  • Magnesium & potassium

  • Vitamin A, C, and K

  • Chlorophyll & anti-inflammatory compounds

The tea is made from the dried leaves (don’t worry, the sting is gone once dried or boiled).

💚 Why I Drink Nettle Tea Weekly

1. It Boosts My Energy Without Caffeine

Whenever I feel drained — especially around my cycle — nettle tea gives me that clean, steady energy my body craves. It’s especially great if you’re low in iron or always cold/tired.

2. It Helps My Skin Stay Clearer and Calmer

Nettle supports the liver and kidneys, which means fewer toxins floating around. When I drink it consistently, I notice less redness, fewer breakouts, and a more even glow.

3. It Gently Supports Hormone Balance

I’ve recommended nettle tea to friends dealing with PMS, period fatigue, and even perimenopause. It’s not magic, but over time, it helps you feel more stable and nourished.

4. It’s a Natural Detoxifier (Without Harshness)

Forget extreme detox teas. Nettle works gradually, supporting your body’s natural detox channels — especially the liver, kidneys, and skin.

🫖 How I Brew Nettle Tea

  • 1 tablespoon of dried nettle leaves

  • 1.5–2 cups of hot water

  • Steep covered for 10–12 minutes

  • Drink warm or cold — it’s earthy, mild, and pairs great with mint or lemon balm

I usually drink it mid-morning or before lunch — it gives a nice body boost without a crash.

⚠️ Things to Know

Nettle is powerful, but gentle. Still:

  • If you’re on blood pressure meds or diuretics, talk to your doctor

  • Avoid during pregnancy unless supervised (it stimulates the uterus slightly)

  • It may increase urination (detox in action!)

🛒 Where to Get Good Nettle

I buy organic dried nettle from Herbadion — clean, deep green, and strong enough to work.

They also offer:

  • Hormone support blends with nettle + raspberry leaf

  • Energy & skin support combos with mint and rosehip

Final Thoughts

Nettle tea isn’t flashy, but it’s one of the most nourishing teas I’ve ever tried. It’s like drinking the green power of the forest — with benefits that stack up over time.

Try it for a week. You might feel lighter, clearer, and just better.
